Why Reels?
Instagram shows Reels not only to your followers but also to people who have never seen your profile. For businesses, that’s the chance to reach new customers – without an advertising budget. If you’d also like to advertise in a targeted way, Google Ads or Meta Ads? gives you some orientation. On top of that, moving images show your work more vividly than any photo.
Ideas that almost always work
- Before and after. The haircut, the bathroom, the façade. The moment of transformation is captivating.
- The process in time-lapse. From raw material to finished result in a few seconds.
- A practical tip. A short explanation of what your customers should know – without lecturing.
- Frequently asked questions. Every question you hear often is a video.
- Behind the scenes. The team, the morning before opening, the delivery of fresh produce.
The first seconds decide
People who swipe on decide instantly. Start with the strongest image or a question, not with your logo. A short line of text in the image says what it’s about – even without sound. And because many people tap through to your profile after a good Reel, that needs to be right as well: see Optimise your Instagram profile.
Shooting on a smartphone
- Vertical in 9:16 format, hold the camera steady or support it.
- Light from the front, ideally daylight from a window.
- Sound recorded close to the mouth – a small clip-on microphone helps a lot.
- Subtitles added. Many people watch without sound.
- Keep it short. Better a punchy video than a long one nobody watches to the end.
When it comes to music: use the tracks Instagram makes available for your profile. For business profiles, the choice is sometimes limited – other people’s songs without the rights are off-limits. The same applies to people in the picture: get consent from your team and customers before you show them. This article is for orientation only and is no substitute for legal advice.
Keep going without burning out
Fixed formats make it easier: for example, a tip every Monday and a before-and-after every Friday. That way you always know what comes next. Shoot several videos in one session and publish them gradually. How a larger shoot with many clips is planned is covered in The company video.
Templates for cover images and subtitles in your brand’s look keep your profile tidy. How to plan social media as a whole is covered in Social media for small businesses.
